April 20, 2006
Ottawa, ON – April 20, 2006 – – International Datacasting Corporation (IDC) [TSX: IDC], announced today that it has been awarded the OCRI (Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation), Service of the Year award for its teleport service which delivers TV and radio for the Canadian Forces overseas. IDC provides the infrastructure and service for the Canadian Forces Radio & Television (CFRT) service which delivers news, sports, entertainment, and special events programming to Canadian Forces stationed overseas in areas like Iraq and Afghanistan. The service is broadcast in real-time from IDC’s Ottawa teleport and includes one channel of video in English, one in French and several home-town radio stations.
The service being provided operates on IDC’s highly reliable SuperFlex DVB-IP technology platform, which enables the seamless integration of multiple channels of video, audio and IP data into a single satellite carrier and consists of live and recorded Canadian regional programming with selected content supplied by various Canadian networks such as CBC, CTV and Global.
Ron Clifton, President and CEO of IDC commented, "There is no doubt that this service has proven to be very valuable for our troops. The CFRT service is extremely popular because it helps the troops stay informed with news and issues back home, as well as providing them with high value entertainment to keep their morale high while stationed overseas."
